Get Longer Recording Times with Blackmagic Design’s New Firmware for All Cameras

Blackmagic Design announced a new firmware release for all of their cameras including the Pocket Cinema Camera, the Cinema Camera and the Cinema Camera 4k.  This new firmware adds three new Apple ProRes™ file formats for the Blackmagic Cinema Camera, Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera and Blackmagic Production Camera 4K.

Blackmagic Design Firmware Update, Live Seminar Coming to New York

Yesterday we attended Blackmagic Design’s live seminar in Los Angeles and it was, in a word, amazing. Between the wonderful presenters and the quality of the manufacturers in attendance it was an excellent place to learn about Blackmagic products and how they work within the industry. The attendees were also some of the best we’ve met at any trade show, and we really enjoyed speaking with a lot of new people that were right in our own back yard.

Blackmagic Cinema Camera Used On ‘Sharknado 2: The Second One’

The sequel to everyone’s favorite natural disaster/shark attack movie mash up, ‘Sharknado 2: The Second One’ utilized the Blackmagic Cinema Camera as its B camera.

Director by Anthony C. Ferrante describes the appeal of the BMCC on their shoot: “The Blackmagic camera was really great because it was lightweight and produced amazing images. We could grab and go with it for quick inserts and shooting spur of the moment shots, while knowing that we would always get high quality images we could work with. It gave us images that had real sharpness and clarity and helped get additional elements needed to theVFX guys for some of the complicated shots in the film.”

Attention Blackmagic Camera Owners: New Firmware Update 1.8

Today, Blackmagic Design announced the release of new camera firmware, Version 1.8.  The new firmware is massive and will provide enhanced lens control support for EF lenses, better peaking, better audio performance and a new interface for all cameras.

Here are some of the new features in Version 1.8

  • New code base for all Blackmagic cameras
  • RAW DNG support on the Production Camera 4K
  • New debayer
  • Enhanced lens control support for EF, giving auto focus when pushing focus button on active EF lenses
  • Improved focus peaking (which is now green in color to see easier)
  • Improved audio performance
  • Enhancements to Cinema Cameras when shooting at 1600 ISO
  • Updated user interface
  • Losslessly compressed RAW DNG recording support

Cinegear 2014: Blackmagic Design Studio Camera

At Cinegear 2014, we got an update on Blackmagic’s Studio Camera. Again, Tina Eckman of Blackmagic Design takes us through the features and specs of the Studio Camera. If you are planning on doing live or live to tape broadcasts from anything from news, talk shows, podcasts to church services, to education, you should be thinking about this camera.
